Officials at Leamington District Memorial Hospital hope adding a doctor to its peak hours in the Emergency Department will mean a shorter wait for patients.
Doctors will work an extra shift between 4pm and 8pm daily when patient volumes peak.
Director of Critical Care Katherine Groenewegen says the administration will be watching closely to see how the change works.
"We are monitoring it on actually a day-to-day basis."
Right now, the hospital has doctors on staff. The change won't mean any new hours, just a reworking of the schedule.
A recent staff and community survey identified wait times as an area of improvement.
Wait times at Leamington's Emergency Department are already the lowest in the region, and 19th out of 73 hospitals that take part in the Pay-For-Results program.
