The Town of Essex is considering a policy to discourage idling in the town.
Administration has been instructed to develop a framework for dealing with the issue that includes education as well as a possible bylaw. Councillor Sherry Bondy says Essex could be the first in the county to take on the issue. "There's no idling bylaws in the county but that doesn't mean because we haven't done it that we shouldn't be looking at it. I feel like I'm pretty progressive and I want to see some green strategies happen here in our town," says Bondy. Some councillors, like Councillor Randy Voakes, believe any bylaw would be difficult to enforce and the initiative is a waste of administration's time. "It's something that I would love to see council endorse. I know it's maybe not urgent, but something like this seems to always not be urgent and then you go another six years and nothing has been done," says Bondy.
