Transit Windsor is once again offering free rides on fireworks night.
On June 27, 2016 from 6pm-1am all Transit Windsor buses will be free to use in an effort to reduce traffic downtown. Shuttles will also run from Devonshire Mall starting at 6pm.
"Last year over 18,000 people took the free ride on Transit Windsor down to the fireworks and I think people understand that they don't have to worry about parking, they don't have to worry about traffic. It's very seamless , it's very easy and of course on fireworks night it's free," says Windsor Mayor Drew Dilkens.
The free rides are possible through a partnership with local Zehrs Market grocery stores. The stores provide the $15,000 necessary to offer the service.
"It's our way of saying thank you. We take the traffic off of downtown and everybody gets home safe and it's quicker," says Zehrs Parkway Store Manager John Hindi.
In partnership with Transit Windsor local Zehrs Markets are also hosting 'Stuff the Bus' events June 17-19 to help support local food banks.
