A support group is in the works for those who have suffered through miscarriage, stillbirth or the loss of a newborn.
Rebecca Ismail, Director of Education, Coordination and Clinical Projects with the Leamington District Memorial Hospital, is in the early stages of forming the group.
"Very initial [stages] but we're going to try and move that forward," says Ismail.
She feels the group would fill a need as she sees more and more people attend the annual Butterfly Memorial in Leamington dedicated to infant loss.
"Unfortunately, right now we don't have a local infant loss support group in the community," says Ismail. "It's a way to help them grieve."
The 15th year for the event was held at the Baby Butterfly Garden at Erie Memorial Gardens in Leamington on Wednesday evening, with butterflies released into the garden to symbolize spirits flying high.
Ismail says seeing the ceremony move into its 15th year is proof the need is there for the support group.
"I think that says it for itself," says Ismail. "It seems like each year that I have been involved it has grown."
Ismail feels she saw strong interest in forming the support group at the ceremony on Wednesday night and adds the group would be open to families across Windsor-Essex.
