Motorcycle enthusiasts from across Windsor-Essex remember a local couple killed on their motorcycle last weekend.
Colin and Laurie Jackson died after their bike collided with a minivan at the corner of County Rd. 46 and Rochester Townline Rd. Saturday night. The Ontario Provincial Police believe the minivan ran a stop sign. The couple was pronounced dead at the hospital.
President of the Iron Horse Motorcycle Club, Stacey "Snook" King, expects up to 200 members of the motorcycle community at their organization tonight. He says the Jacksons were new to the area, having arrived from Napanee and Kingston just 18 months ago.
"They were just a great part of our organization, and we'll miss them dearly."
He says the community is devastated.
Police have not said distracted driving played a role in the accident, but an emotional King says he's noticed an increase in distracted drivers adding to the risks motorcycle enthusiasts take when they hit the road.
"It would be nice if the law enforcement would be a little more active," he says. "You see it every day; people just not being held accountable."
Police expect to lay charges against the driver of the minivan.
