With the continued risk of a work disruption at Canada Post, the City of Windsor is warning vendors they may have to pick up their cheques.
Those that receive payment through direct deposit won't be affected, but those that have their cheque delivered won't get them in the mail if carriers are locked out or strike on Wednesday. Instead, they'll have to pick it up at the 1st-floor reception desk at 350 City Hall Square.
Vendors are asked to call 311 first to make sure it's been printed. There may be some delays because of the volume of cheques being processed.
They'll also need to bring an official letter from the vendor authorizing the individual picking up the cheque. That person will need to have two pieces of government identification on them, including one with a photo, and they'll have to sign for it.
Last week, the city asked Ontario Works recipients to pick up their cheques because of the threat postal carriers would be off the job Saturday. Developments in talks through the weekend have delayed the deadline for a contract agreement until Wednesday.
