Many Lakeshore residents are in favour of the town creating a new bylaw that would allow ATVs on rural municipal streets.
Over 80 people attended a public open house about the bylaw last month and only one person was against it.
"The people certainly didn't appear to want them in the residential zones," says Mayor Tom Bain. "But there was overwhelming desire to have them be able to travel on our municipal roads in our agricultural areas."
A year into the pilot project, Bain says residents in Lighthouse Cove and Stoney Point haven't had complaints. The pilot project will continue for another year before the town makes any decision on a permanent bylaw.
"There will be a report coming back from administration as to opening up to more roads or keeping what we have. Whatever direction that comes out of our pilot project," says Bain.
