Pride Fest Kicks Off Wednesday

The 24th annual Windsor Essex Pride Fest kicks off Wednesday with a flag raising at city hall.

Events run throughout the week and include a comedy show at the Walkerville Theatre on Friday, entertainment at the riverfront on Saturday and the Pride parade on Sunday.

President of the Windsor-Essex Pride Festival David Lenz says this festival is important for the community especially after the mass shooting at a gay nightclub in Orlando.

"People have always questioned why do we still have Pride Fest, why do we still have Pride parades, why do we still have all these things? And those are some of the reasons why. There are still issues out there, there's still hate out there, discrimination, all those kinds of things," says Lenz.

Lenz invites everyone to check out the festival and learn about the LGBT community.

"It's not just for the LGBT community it's for everyone. Our tag line is 'come one, come all' so it doesn't matter who you are, what colour you are, what sexuality you are we want you to come out and enjoy the festival," says Lenz.
