The Windsor Public Library is hoping to better reach under-served communities in the city with its new bookmobile.
CEO Kitty Pope says the new bookmobile is more than just books on a bus and that's why it's been named FRED for Freedom to Read, Educate and Discover.
"FRED has books absolutely, but it also has DVDs, CDs, audiobooks, self-playing audiobooks, lots of technology, it has a computer work station on board," says Pope.
She's confident they have a winner with the mini library on wheels after seeing two young boys check out the bookmobile.
"We knew that it would be a huge hit at that point because everybody who came and met FRED wanted to bring back someone to meet him as well," says Pope.
Pope says the new bookmobile is part of a plan started in 2013 to revamp the library system in Windsor and provide better service across the city.
The bus was bought and re-purposed for a total of $30,000.
