Car Buffs Cruise Into Windsor

Hot rod, muscle car and classic automobile enthusiasts from near and far are set to descend upon Windsor for its inaugural Ouellette Car Cruise.

The event kicks off on Friday with thousands of car owners lining up their vehicles at Civic Terrace at noon. The event's "cruise" will start at 5pm, and take the vehicles of various makes and models down Ouellette Ave., Tecumseh Rd. E, Pillette Rd., Riverside Dr. E and then back to Ouellette.

Larry Horwitz, chair of the Downtown Windsor BIA, says the event is modeled after The Woodward Dream Cruise that's held in Detroit, and will be a great event for boosting local tourism.

"We're getting calls now from people from Alberta, from as far away as Chicago and places in New York," he says. "So I think in terms of tourism, it's going to be huge."

Horwitz says in a car town like Windsor, the event "should be something to behold."

"It's going to be a huge cruise," he says. "If you've gone to Detroit and you've seen what they do along Woodward... this is what we're doing and hopefully down the road it's going to get bigger and bigger."

The Ouellette Car Cruise is scheduled to run until 11pm.
