Gauging Interest In St. Pierre Home Project

The Maidstone Historical Society wants to move and restore a significant piece of Lakeshore's French history.

President of the society Victoria Beaulieu says the St. Pierre Log House is believed to be built in the mid-1800's, but has been sitting vacant on W. Belle River Rd. since 2005.

"Not a lot of people are aware that part of Lakeshore is a provincially-designated French community, and there's really not a lot representing that," she explains. "So this is a good opportunity for the Francophone community to really come together and build something."

Beaulieu says they'll need to raise about $50,000 in order to lay a foundation and move the house to the Maidstone museum's property on Puce Rd.

It'll be about $200,000 to fully refurbish the old home.

The museum is holding an open house this Sunday at 2pm in order to talk about its plan and to gauge community interest.
