A weather advisory from Environment Canada that had warned of the possibility of funnel clouds forming in the region is now ended.
The advisory outline funnel cloud sightings over the southern part of Essex County as storms moved through the Harrow area. The storms were moving eastward and southeastward along the shoreline. Meteorologists anticipated the storms would cross Point Pelee and Pelee Island around 4:30pm.
The storms are expected to continue moving into Lake Erie.
Environment Canada says these types of funnel clouds are generated by weak rotation under rapidly growing clouds or weak thunderstorms. This type of rotation isn't usually a danger near the ground, but could potentially intensify into a landspout tornado.
