Windsor-Essex Under Extended Heat Warning

The Windsor-Essex County Health Unit is issuing an Extended Heat Warning for the region which will continue into tomorrow.

The health unit's heat Heat Warning was upgraded based on Environment Canada forecasts predicting another hot and humid day on Thursday before an expected cooling down beginning on Friday.

The high is expected to reach 30 C (86 F) tomorrow while the humidex is expected to hit 40.

In a news release sent out by the health unit, it warns everyone is at risk from heat — particularly infants, young children, older adults, those with medical conditions and those who work or exercise outside. The health unit advises heat-related illnesses are preventable and recommends drinking plenty of water, wearing lightweight, loose-fitting clothing and protecting yourself from the sun by seeking shade and wearing a wide-brimmed hat.

The health unit also reminds you not to leave children or pets in parked cars.
