Human Case of Lyme Disease Diagnosed

A Windsor-Essex County resident has tested positive for Lyme disease.

The Windsor-Essex County Health Unit confirms this is the first human case in the area in 2016.

Lyme disease is a bacterial infection spread through the bite of a blacklegged deer tick.

If you are bitten by a tick the health unit says it should be removed and kept in a small plastic container for the health unit to send away for testing. The Health Unit accepts ticks found on human bodies at its three offices in the area during regular business hours.

The health unit is reminding residents to continue to protect themselves against ticks by covering up and wearing insect repellent when going outdoors.
