Following the overwhelming success of Windsor's first Open Streets Festival, the city is closing down streets for the second edition Sunday.
From 9am to 1pm, sections of Sandwich St., University Ave., Wyandotte St. E and Drouillard Rd. will be closed to traffic, and open to pedestrians. Along the route, nine hubs will host activities including chalk drawing, a public piano, potato sack races, rock climbing and a photo booth. Live Music and food lines the 8 km route, as well.
The 311 Call Centre will be open from 8:30am to 1:30pm to take questions about the event.
The last event in July drew thousands of people and was met with rave reviews. At the time, the City of Windsor's Manager of Programming Policy, Michael Cooke, told BlackburnNews.com it is hard to say how many people attended, but he said a safe estimate was in the thousands.
The city put aside $55,000 for the two events. The first Open Streets Festival came in below its $30,000 budget.
