Zehrs Donates To Downtown Mission

The Downtown Mission is benefitting from over $2,000 of food donated by Zehrs stores in the region.

Employees at the stores in Windsor, Tecumseh, LaSalle and Kingsville donated time and money to bring the donation to the Downtown Mission prior to Thanksgiving.

"It's important to me on a personal level, it's important to me on a corporate level because it's all about helping each other, it's all about feeding each other, it's all about working together," says Maureen Taylor from the Zehrs on Malden Rd.

Downtown Mission CEO Ron Dunn says now is the time they start seeing large donations like this.

"Donations are on pace I guess. The issue isn't how much we bring in it's how much we have to give out. The reality is we're just helping more people these days than we've ever had to," says Dunn. "All of this food will go relatively quickly. As we know with 726 meals a day through the mission."

The donation drive by the local grocery stores was part of an effort by Zehrs stores across the province to donate to local food banks.
