Samaritan's Purse Here To Help Flood Victims

A charity disaster relief company has set up shop in the area to help families recover from last week's flood.

Samaritan's Purse is a national relief organization that works with professional contractors and a team of volunteers to help with remediation efforts after a natural disaster.

Disaster Response Coordinator Steve Elliott says they are here to help the vulnerable in the community who do not have insurance and cannot complete the work themselves.

"Families who have just found that this recent flood is the straw that has broken their back and they just aren't able to cope with doing the work themselves. Those are the people that we want to walk beside, those are the people that we want to reach out to," says Elliott.

The group is also looking for volunteers in the community who have the ability to help in any remediation projects.

"When we partner with other faith-based groups and sometimes other community groups as well we are able to extend our expertise out to a wider group across the municipality," says Elliott.

The group has a trailer set up at St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church in Lakeshore and will travel to homes in need of help in the affected area. To request assistance call 1-866-628-6565.
