Fatal Fire Investigation Continues

A fire that claimed the life of a 19-year-old University of Windsor student is not being treated as suspicious at this time.

Investigators of the Ontario Fire Marshal are on scene again today evaluating debris in an attempt to determine the cause of the fire.

Fire Investigation Supervisor Rick Derstroff says it could still be a couple days before they make any conclusions.

"We've determined that the fire originated from the interior of the structure, more specifically the main level, we're currently in the excavation process of the investigation," says Derstroff. "We don't have any indication to say it was suspicious at this point. It's still early in the investigation we don't have a fire cause."

Five other people were injured in the fire but have since been released from hospital.

The OFM would like to remind people, especially students, to have working smoke alarms on every level of the house and have an escape plan in case of emergency.
