The Town of Lakeshore is taking the step of warning its residents about door-to-door salespeople claiming there's a problem with the municipal water.
A statement from the town says some residents have called to complain about salespeople trying to get into their homes to conduct water sampling tests. They say the water is "red-lined" or "hard" and tell the homeowner there is a mandatory requirement they install water softeners. They are trying to sell in-home water purification equipment.
The municipality says the salespeople are not town employees and the town does not endorse their activities or their products. If someone appears on your doorstep claiming to be from the town, ask to see identification.
As for the water quality, the statement says the water is not "hard" and continually meets and exceeds water quality standards set by the province.
"Hardness of water is a measure of the calcium and magnesium salts present in water," the statement reads. "Hardness is only an issue when water is classified as very hard and then the water will deposit a scale when it is heated. At that level, water needs to be softened to protect hot water equipment like water heaters, dishwashers and kettles from scale damage. Hard water is not a health concern and is not a concern in Lakeshore."
