It's Giving Tuesday

You've heard of Black Friday and Cyber Monday, but the Association of Fundraising Professionals is launching Giving Tuesday.

President of the local chapter which reaches from Windsor to Sarnia, Alexandria Fischer says it's an opportunity for people to talk about volunteerism and philanthropy.

"Talk about it. Educate yourself on Giving Tuesday. Getting involved, volunteering, picking your own favourite organization and helping them achieve their goals," says Fischer.

There's been a national campaign for the past four years, but Fischer says this is the first time a local effort has been launched.

The event has a social media component too. Fischer encourages everyone to talk about the impact of community service online too using the hashtags #GivingTuesdayCA and #YQGGives.

"We collectively celebrate the incredible impact on our city when our citizens give generously to the city in which they live," says a release from the association.

The association has 33,000 members around the world.
