Firefighters Donate to Ronald McDonald House

The Windsor Professional Firefighters Association is donating funds from its annual calendar drive to the Ronald McDonald House.

They raised $26,130.64 through the sale of the calendar. Each year the association picks a charity and aims to sell more calendars than the year before. This year they sold 2,900 calendars.

"We couldn't pick a better charity, the community responded quite well with it. They helped us meet our goal of selling all the calendars so we were able to make a substantial donation to the house here," says Windsor Fire Fighter Wayne Currie.

Firefighter Aaron Campeau once had to use the house while his daughter was in hospital in London and said the support was invaluable.

"Just to catch a break from the hospital setting, to come in here, it feels like a home. You've got a kitchen, a livign room a place to relax, it's a nice setting," says Campeau.

Since opening its doors in May of this year the Ronald McDonald House has served over 72 overnight families and 300 visitors on a daily pass.

"In London we have 34 bedrooms, here we have five long term bedrooms plus two napping rooms. So keeping all of that running, keeping the food stocked, keeping the lights on, all of that, it takes a lot and we need this kind of support so we're very grateful for it," says Jenne Wason, executive director of the Ronald McDonald House charity.

Each year the charity raises over $2-million for the operation of the houses in Southwestern Ontario.
