Windsor Regional Hospital CEO David Musyj is hopeful 2017 will be the year the province gives the region the thumbs up on a new hospital.
In 2016, the region completed all the groundwork for the first phase of the proposal and both the city and the county have committed to a funding model.
Musyj says he's hoping the government will commit to funding of a new hospital early in the new year.
"We just cannot as a community be apathetic to think it's just naturally going to happen. Nothing naturally happens, we need to press it and we need to make it become a reality," says Musyj.
Musyj says past projects have taken anywhere from six to nine months to move from stage one to stage two of the planning process. The city and the county committed to a funding model in April 2016 which was the last step in phase one of the project.
"Everything we're hearing is positive. I'd be worried if we're at the six-nine month mark and I start hearing things that we still have a bunch of questions or we still have concerns regarding A, B and C of this project, that's not what we're hearing," says Musyj.
Musyj says he is in constant contact with the ministry to make sure everything with the file is going smoothly.
