Canada Falls To USA In World Junior Final

Team Canada had to settle for silver at the World Junior Hockey Championship.

Canada fell 5-4 to the United States in a shootout in the gold medal game at the Bell Centre in Montreal.

Canada drew first blood, as Thomas Chabot found the American net to give the Canadians a 1-0 lead in the first period. Jeremy Lauzon scored to make it 2-0 Canada.

Charlie McAvoy got the Americans on the board early in the second period. Kieffer Bellows evened the score at two on the power play after Canada took a too many men on the ice penalty.

Canada made it 4-2 in the third on goals from Nicolas Roy and Mathieu Joseph.

The U.S. answered with Bellows' second goal of the game and a goal from Colin White.

An intense overtime settled nothing, sending the two teams to a shootout.

Tyler Parsons of the London Knights stopped all of Canada's attempts, while Tyler Terry was able to get a shot past Carter Hart to give the U.S. its first gold medal at the World Junior Hockey Championship since 2013.
