A day after announcing it will have to cancel scheduled surgeries because of a bed shortage, Windsor Regional Hospital continues to struggle.
A statement from the hospital Thursday morning says it has 35 "Admit No Bed" patients between its Metropolitan and Ouellette Campuses. That means those patients are in acute care beds above the hospital's regular census.
There are 38 acute level care patients between the two campuses.
A high number of patients suffering stomach viruses and respiratory illnesses from long-term care homes across the region account for the overflow. According to the Windsor-Essex County Health Unit's website, there are outbreaks at ten homes.
That means possibly as many as three surgeries at the Met campus, and one surgery, possibly two at Ouellette has been cancelled.
The hospital says it will provide regular updates on its status.
