Thousands Of Students Face Suspensions Over Immunizations

The Windsor-Essex County Health Unit says it has sent out formal suspension notices to 3,589 high school students with incomplete immunization records.

The notices were sent to students born in 1999 and 2000 and details which vaccinations they are missing, along with information how to get in touch with the health unit to book an appointment and provide updated records.

Beginning Tuesday, February 28, students who still have not provided the health unit with their up to date immunizations will be suspended from school.

Students who want to return to class on that day will have to visit the health unit in person to get a rescind letter to present to their school principal.

The Windsor-Essex Catholic District School Board is holding three immunization clinics. They are: at Holy Names Catholic High School on February 15, Villanova Catholic High School on February 16, and at St. Anne Catholic High School on February 21.

BlackburnNews.com has reached out to the Greater Essex County District School Board to find out if it will also hold immunization clinics.
