Group Trying to Save Historic Log Cabin

A group in Lakeshore is looking for community support to move and preserve a historic log cabin.

The cabin was built in the mid 1800s and currently sits on the front lawn of a descendent of the original owners. All 14 families who lived in the log cabin were French Canadian.

"That log cabin has been sitting on her front lawn for ten years now empty, and this is the year that the log cabin is going to be moved or they're going to destroy it. So the urgency is there," says Suzanne Allison with the group.

They hope to move the cabin to Optimist Park so it can be preserved and serve a community purpose. They think the cabin could be used by the community as workshop space, for educational lessons, art displays or community gatherings.

They are looking to raise about $50,000. There are also federal grants they are looking to take advantage of if they can get the municipality's support.

The Municipality of Lakeshore will be meeting with the group to see if they can partner in the initiative.
