Rain Delaying Outdoor Sports Season

An abundance of wet weather is keeping sports fields closed in Windsor.

All baseball diamonds had been scheduled to open this coming week, while other fields were set to get the green light next weekend.

The city says its Parks Department has already finished its pre-season maintenance on all of its ball diamonds, but the fields are still going to be too saturated to use.

Officials are asking residents to stay off all fields, as playing on them in their current condition could cause significant damage to the grass.

With more rain predicted by Environment Canada this weekend, final touches such as turf cutting, re-grooming of the diamonds, and line painting could be pushed back.

The city plans to reassess all of its baseball diamonds and sports fields on Monday.
