The County of Essex is warning drivers that construction on the intersection of County Rd. 22 and Manning Rd. starts Monday.
The $6.9-million project is expected to improve flow through the intersection by adding new left-hand turning lanes. The work in one of the busiest corners in the region will be completed over six phases.
As of Monday, speeds will be lowered within the construction zone to 60km/hr. Over the six stages of the project, County Rd. 22 will be restricted to a single lane in each direction, but should not close. Manning Rd. will have short road closures, and some of the work will be done at night and on weekends to avoid the majority of the traffic.
"We acknowledge there will be short-term impacts and we thank motorists in advance for their patience and understanding," says Director of Transportation Services for the County of Essex, Tom Bateman. "A construction project of this magnitude involves complex staging and numerous lane shifts."
The work should be done in November.
