The new Leamington District Secondary School will have a new track and sports facilities thanks to some local businesses.
The original budget for the new school did not include any athletic facilities, so some local businesses took it upon themselves to spearhead the project. Nature Fresh Farms and South Essex Fabricating have donated $250,000 to the project.
A total of $1.5-million is needed to complete the full scope of the project with a field house and lighting.
"We really hope that the community will rally behind this. This isn't a flash in the pan. This is something that should be here for the next 30-50 years," says Peter Quiring, president of Nature Fresh Farms and South Essex Fabricating.
The track will be a regulation size, eight lane track. Quiring says this will be a benefit for the entire community, as the school would be able to host provincial track meets.
The new school will open in September 2017. The group is hopeful the track will also be completed in the fall.
