Shriners Donate For Children's Services

The paediatric services ward at Windsor Regional Hospital is benefiting from a $5,000 donation from the local Moramos Shrine Club.

The club raises money for 22 Shriners hospitals across North America and donates to local paediatric services at the hospital and John McGivney Centre.

"One of our major fundraising items is our Christmas fruit cake. We sell several hundred of the fruitcakes and it raises a sufficient amount of money for us. We have other things that we do over the course of the year like events," says Jim Chambers, president of the Windsor chapter.

The Moramos Shrine Club of Windsor has donated over $250,000 to Windsor Regional Hospital in the past.

"It goes into the research area of the hospital and also into the basic functioning of the hospital, but basically we leave it up to the hospital," says Chambers. "I think they realize why we are giving the money, it's for paediatric care."

The donation was presented to the Windsor Regional Hospital Foundation on Thursday.
