Rain Forecast For Art In The Park

Windsor's annual Art In The Park festival is this weekend, so of course, there is rain in the forecast.

Environment Canada Meteorologist Geoff Coulson says there is just a slight risk of scattered showers on Saturday once it clouds over in the afternoon. However, Sunday could be another matter as a system moves in the region.

"Unfortunately, as a system moves in from the upper Great Lakes moves through the area, Saturday night and during the day on Sunday, that is going to make the chance of showers, and even some thunderstorms, somewhat more likely," says Coulson.

As for whether artisans will see their event flooded out, Coulson admits it is possible.

"At this point in time, it actually looks like the strongest storms may actually stay to the east of the Windsor area," he says. "All it would take is one or two of these storms hitting the park and having a significant amount of rainfall to cause some issues."

It has become a bit of a joke that it always rains on Art in the Park. Last year, organizers even handed out novelty umbrellas in the event of a shower or two. Instead, the weekend was partly sunny.

This year's event at Willistead Park features 260 artists from across Ontario and Quebec. Entertainment includes Tara Watts, Mistaken Identity and Acoustic Rhythms.

The Rotary Club of Windsor has also organized a free shuttle bus that will pick up passengers from Windsor Regional Hospital's Met Campus and Hiram Walker.

The event started in 1970 and has raised over $1-million for restoration efforts at Willistead Manor.
