Windsor is moving forward with an overall active transportation study after considering a bike rack policy at council Monday night.
The active transportation study will cost an estimated $350,000, which will come out of the budget stabilization fund. The proposed bike rack policy will be a part of the overall study.
The vote to spend the additional dollars was unanimous.
"Council as a whole chose to move forward with updating the bicycle use master plan, to include active transportation whether that's pedestrians, that includes public transit, that includes roller bladers and long boarders," says Councillor Chris Holt.
A report will come back to council outlining the timelines and goals of the study.
"You need to define the scope of what your study is going to be, and that will come back to council for final approval. that is going to need some community engagement and BIA involvement as well," says Councillor Bill Marra.
The report is expected to take a year to 18 months to complete. In the meantime, the status quo will remain in place for the purchase of bike racks in BIAs and throughout the city.
