The Windsor Essex Catholic District School Board is looking to approve a budget with a $1.5-million projected deficit.
The total budget for the 2017-2018 school year is $252.8-million. Salaries, wages, and benefits make up around 81% of the budget.
Executive Superintendent of Business Penny King says the in-year deficit is an improvement from last year.
"It consists of $1.1-million of a contingency, which is a good thing -- and $430,000 of planned investments, so we are pleased where we are at financially speaking," says King.
The deficit will be covered by the accumulated surplus that currently sits at $10.9-million.
Enrollment projections are down 326 students, however due to some extra funding from the province, the board intends to add an additional 25 teaching positions.
The budget is available for public consultation for the next two weeks. The final budget will be approved on June 26, 2017.
