The Town of Lakeshore wants to build up its industrial lands along Hwy. 401 near Comber.
To do that councillors will have to get permission from the province to make amendments to the official plan.
"We know we've got a real fight on our hands ahead. It's not something that's going to be settled in the next year or two, but we want to really get a foot in the door," says Mayor Tom Bain.
He expects some resistance because they've been told no in the past when they established industrial lands at Patillo Rd.
"The province kind of put us on notice. You can have one or the other, but not necessarily two, and the council of the time voted to go with the Patillo Rd. area," says Bain.
Bain says they are running out of space there, and don't want to expand further into residential neighbourhoods.
Council sent a letter to the province to get the ball rolling on the official plan amendments.
