The debate over bike lanes on Wyandotte St. E throughout Riverside will be saved for another time.
Windsor City Council referred the report regarding the completion of the Windsor Loop to the Active Transportation Master Plan, which was approved at the last council meeting.
Cycling advocate Jennifer Escott says she is disappointed, but understands the delay.
"The referral doesn't actually do anything for Wyandotte, and bike lanes on Wyandotte. However, it does tell us that council is taking the active transportation plan seriously," says Escott. "We would have liked to see the safety issue addressed, but let's all push for an active transportation plan for the city, and I think in the long run that's going to be a benefit."
The active transportation master plan is expected to be completed in the next 18 months. It will include public consultation before being adopted by council.
"We certainly encourage when the public consultation for that plan comes out, that all of the community and the business community come out and provide their input," says Escott.
The request for proposal to start the plan is expected to be issued in August.
