Transition to Betterness says it has raised more than $208,000 for a healing garden and greenhouse at Hotel-Dieu Grace Healthcare.
More than 200 people took part in T2B's annual golf tournament last Friday to raise money for the project, which is a first in Canada.
The tournament was held in honour of the charity's late board member, Dr. Lisa Ventrella-Lucente, and the project will be named the "Dr. Lisa Ventrella-Lucente Healing Garden and Greenhouse."
"To be able to visit such a peaceful and beautiful place is a privilege," says Bill Marra, vice president of external affairs at Hotel-Dieu Grace Healthcare. "We are not aware of any other palliative care program in Canada which boasts a combined healing garden and greenhouse/conservatory for patients and family members."
Last year, the charity raised enough money to fund the first phase of the project, the healing garden which features a full-sized concrete labyrinth for meditation, a herb garden, and seating areas.
The ribbon cutting is planned for September 14.
