A campaign to cover the costs of the funeral for a 3-year-old boy killed in a hit and run collision in Windsor has already raised 257% of its goal.
Kevin Eh Say's 16-year-old sister, Tee Tee, organized the campaign on Indiegogo's fundraising website Generosity.com. Initially, Tee Tee set the goal at $1,000, but in less than a day the campaign has raised over $4,300.
Young Kevin's family fled to Canada 11 years ago to escape genocide in Burma. The family belongs to the South Asian Indigenous group called the Karen people. His father is a farm worker in Leamington, and there are three other children in the family including the oldest, Tee Tee.
Although the family surpassed its conservative goal, the posting says donations are still welcome.
"Please show your love and support by making donations. All amounts will help. Isabella and Tee were at the scene of the crime and are going to need significant support," the posting reads.
The young boy was hit Monday night on Wyandotte St. W near Bruce Ave. by a van that fled the scene. Windsor police found the van and made an arrest the following day, and on Wednesday charged 56-year-old Kenneth Dawson with failure to stop at the scene of a collision and criminal negligence causing death. Dawson was released on bail this morning.
