Windsor police say a man is facing several charges after a woman was robbed and assaulted.
Police were called to a business on Tecumseh Rd. E near Chandler Rd. just after 11am on Thursday, July 20. When they arrived, they found a woman with non-life threatening injuries, sitting on the ground. She told the officers she had been assaulted and was a victim of a robbery.
Investigators learned the woman arrived at the business when a man came up and forced his way past her, then demanded cash. Another woman working at the business came to her aid. The man told them he had a gun in the bag he was carrying. One of the women managed to get the bag away from the man and ran outside to yell for help.
The man followed her and continued to assault her. A witness heard the woman yelling and called police. The man then ran off.
Police searched backyards in a nearby neighbourhood and arrested a suspect who was hiding in a shed.
Officers searched the bag that the victim had taken from the suspect and found a sawed-off shotgun.
Christopher Johns, 28, of Windsor is charged with two counts of assault with a weapon, two counts of pointing a firearm, possession of a weapon for committing an offence, possession of a prohibited weapon without a license, assault, carrying a concealed weapon, having face disguised with intent to commit indictable offence, possession of a firearm while prohibited, contravention of firearm storage regulations, and careless use of a firearm.
