The Essex Ward 3 by-election will be held Monday October 23, 2017.
The town held a special meeting of council Monday night to officially pass the bylaw and declare the by-election.
The nomination period begins Tuesday and ends at 2pm on Thursday, September 7. Nominations forms can be submitted to the clerk's office at Essex Town Hall during regular business hours.
An advanced poll will be held on Saturday October 14 at the Harrow and Colchester South Community Centre.
The vote will be held using the traditional paper ballot method.
The Ward 3 seat was left vacant when Bill Caixeiro announced his resignation on July 4.
During a meeting on July 17 council voted to hold a by-election over appointing someone to the role.
It's estimated the by-election will cost the town $12,000-$15,000.
