Historical Sexual Assault Charges Laid

A former Windsor resident is facing multiple sexual-related charges involving children stemming from incidents that occurred in Windsor and Guelph.

The investigation against 65-year-old John Robert Leigh Taylor began in Guelph in January 2017. Windsor police were notified as Taylor used to be a Windsor resident.

The Guelph Police Service laid charges in June. After the information was released, five Windsor males came forward about being victims to similar offences.

On August 1, Taylor was arrested and escorted back to Windsor by Windsor police. He faces five counts of gross indecency, three counts of indecent assault and one count of sexual assault. The charges stem from alleged offences that occurred between 1974-1984. The men involved were 11-14 years of age at the time.

Investigators believe there is the potential for further victims. While in Windsor, Taylor was a foster parent, a youth coach, and a member of the Windsor Police Service.
