There is just over one month to go in the Downtown Mission's $1-million Wellness Centre challenge.
To date, the community has raised $350,000 toward the challenge.
At the beginning of the month, a donor came forward and committed to match every donation made for the Wellness Centre up to $1-million until October 31, 2017.
At first, the donor wished to be anonymous but now Al Quesnel has come forward as the mystery donor.
“I believe in the Downtown Mission and was an early supporter of the first phase of this important lifeline that helps hurting and marginalized people in our community. They are literally transforming people’s lives and giving them hope. Please help me write the Mission a cheque for $1,000,000,” said Quesnel.
The funds will go toward enhancing the Wellness Centre programming for men, women, and youth.
"By accepting Al’s challenge, we will take advantage of the opportunity to fast-track the competencies our program offers. We will provide more comprehensive and meaningful recovery and wellness programs that will lift people out of despair and improve their conditions for the rest of their lives,” said Ron Dunn, executive director of the Downtown Mission.
Currently the Wellness Centre has 103 beds for men, women, and youth. It also has a recovery program and employment skills programs.
