Masse Wants More Protection For Ojibway Shores

Windsor-West MP Brian Masse wants the federal government to hand over care of Ojibway Shores to Environment Canada.

The land is currently being managed by the Windsor Port Authority.

Masse says the Windsor Port Authority has proposed leasing the property for $10-million over 30 years, and that's unacceptable.

"The money is to come from a community benefit fund for one of the most economically challenged areas of Ontario, Sandwich Town. This is obscene, the public should not be asked to pay for land they already own, taken from a community that needs those funds to reduce poverty," says Masse.

Masse says transferring stewardship of the land is a "simple administrative process" because the lands are already public.

Ojibway shores is home to many rare fauna and flora and species at risk according to local environmentalists.
