The public school board is opening a new laneway between Vincent Massey Secondary School and Glenwood Public School in an effort to ease traffic congestion in the area.
The area is known for traffic headaches in the mornings and afternoons as parents try to drop off or pick up their kids.
Public Relations Officer Scott Scantlebury says it's become a real safety issue and nuisance for the neighbourhood.
"I don't anticipate a decrease in the traffic but it's the stopping and dropping off in both school communities that we hope the lane-way that runs from Norfolk to Liberty will alleviate a lot of those problems," says Scantlebury.

The laneway officially opens Thursday morning at 8am. It's a one-way laneway from Norfolk St. to Liberty St. that has designated lanes for each school community.
City of Windsor Parking Enforcement has been known to frequent the area, ticketing parents for parking and stopping in no parking zones. Scantlebury says they are looking forward to the improvement.
"They are very enthusiastic about this. This is a project of the board, paid for by the board to try to solve a situation not only for us but for our neighbourhoods as well," says Scantlebury.
The lane cost $850,000 to complete and was funded through a school renewal grant provided by the Ministry of Education.
