The Windsor-Essex County Humane Society has found homes for all of the dogs rescued in the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey; all, but Sammy.
Sammy was brought to the humane society in Windsor after spending a few harrowing weeks in a shelter in Houston, Texas. He was among a group of eight dogs and other animals brought across the border by the group Moggy Cat Rescue. A few other dogs were taken to the humane society in London.
While Sammy was in the shelter before the storm hit, the agency in Texas had to make room for the animals abandoned by their owners.
That is not to say Sammy has not had some incredibly challenging times in his short two-year life. He was shot and suffered nerve damage causing a limp.
Humane Society Executive Director Melanie Coulter says despite the hurdles he's had to overcome, the dog has a lot of energy and loves people. He's looking for owners willing to train him and care for his ongoing physical care. The agency has posted his bio online.
Coulter says anyone interested in adopting Sammy should come to visit him at the animal shelter on Provincial Rd. The adoption centre is open from 11am to 6pm Saturday to Tuesday, and from 11am to 8pm Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday.
