Windsor Opens Downtown Skating Rink

Winter is here, and that means public skating in downtown Windsor.

The city used the official first day of winter Thursday to open its public rink in Charles Clark Square, near City Hall. In a release, the city's parks and recreation department says preparations are complete and the rink is ready for those wanting to practice their skating moves.

The rink will be open for free, supervised skating weekdays from 3:30pm to 10:30pm and weekends from 8:30am to 10:30pm.

There are also expanded hours for people to enjoy the rink over the school holiday break. Skating will take place between December 23 and December 30, then January 2 to January 8 from 8:30am to 10:30pm.

The rink will close at 3pm Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve, and close completely on Christmas Day and New Year's Day.

All hours are subject to change due to weather conditions.

Hockey and figure skating practice are not permitted on the rink.

For those without skates, All Saints Church will be offering free skates to borrow. Skaters can borrow a pair at the church on Saturdays between 10am and noon.

The city's official website has complete information on outdoor public skating.
