The Downtown Mission is partnering with Tim Horton's locations throughout Windsor to make sure no one spends a night on the streets in the extreme cold.
During extreme cold warnings issued by Environment Canada, the Downtown Mission will pick up anyone, at any Tim Horton's location throughout the city, needing a place to sleep.
"It's about ease, they're everywhere, and we certainly can't be everywhere so I think partnering in this way is amazing," says Downtown Mission Executive Director Ron Dunn.
He says they do not currently have funding for a shuttle service but they want to make sure no one is left in a vulnerable position.
"We don't know how long we can carry on a service like this but certainly in extreme weather we will be there. We want to make sure no one dies out in the weather and at the temperatures we've seen that's definitely a possibility," says Dunn.
Dunn says during last week's extreme cold the Downtown Mission shelter had the capacity to take in more people. The shelter has 103 beds for men, women, and children and Dunn says they can increase staff and put mats out in an overflow room if the need arises.
