LaSalle Hangout Raises Funds To Stay Open

Thanks to the help of local businesses the LaSalle Hangout will remain open, at least for another year.

The LaSalle Hangout is a completely volunteer-run organization that opens after school and during school breaks to give youth a place to socialize and complete coursework.

"It's a safe place for the kids to be and hang out, be with their peers under some adult supervision and be themselves. And we try to give them constructive programs," says board member Brian Kovacsi.

In November, the organization put out a call for help as they were unsure if they would have enough funds to cover their rent past the end of January.

"That's the biggest problem with any charity or not for profit, is funding. As we stand, we are good for another year but we will continue to strive and keep going," says Kovacsi.

He says the community has really rallied around them to make this happen.

"Right now as we stand we're running at about 62% of our operating capital for the year has been fundraised or committed to, with a couple of other events coming up in March which will hopefully cover the rest of our shortfall," says Kovacsi.

The LaSalle Hangout runs out of 1400 Front Rd. Unit 2 in LaSalle. It's open Monday-Thursday 4pm-7pm for youth ages 12-19. They also operate during March Break and the summer months. For more information visit their website.
