The Greater Essex County District School Board is building a new school in the Forest Glade area with a grant of $13.2-million from the Ministry of Education.
The new school will consolidate the student bodies of Eastwood and Parkview Public Schools.
Superintendent of Education for Accommodations Todd Awender says they already have a piece of property where they intend to build the school.
"It's a piece of property right off of Wildwood, it's less than a kilometre away from both school. The board already owns the property. It's a blank slate and we look forward to getting all of the permits done, and getting the architect, the construction company and start the build," says Awender.
He says he's unsure what the construction schedule will look like, as it will all depend on how quickly they can move through the permit process with the City of Windsor.
The board also received nearly $4.9-million for an addition to Queen Elizabeth Public School in Leamington. The addition will include three new classrooms and four childcare rooms.
An addition will also be built on the Essex Public School for a daycare with seven rooms. The board was given $3.7-million for that addition.
The school board intends to have the additions to the existing schools completed by September 2018.
The Ministry of Education also awarded $5.8-million to the Windsor Essex Catholic District School Board for additions to St. Teresa of Calcutta in Windsor, Stella Maris in Amherstburg, and St. Louis in Leamington. All the of additions will accommodate daycares within the schools.
