The Essex Region Conservation Authority is conducting a prescribed burn at the Hillman Marsh Conservation Area on Thursday.
The burn will be conducted on approximately 5 hectares (12 acres) of tallgrass prairie grassland. It will start somewhere around noon and last around three hours.
The prescribed burn is used as a way to revitalize and maintain the tall grass prairie ecosystem. The authority says it keeps the area open and free of shrubbery allowing the rare plants and animals to flourish.
Professional staff will be on hand throughout the entirety of the burn. The authority says this is a low complexity burn and the primary concern will be to minimize any inconvenience that may occur due to smoke.
