The MPP for Essex thinks if the power goes out three times or more, customers should get some of their money back.
Taras Natyshak has introduced a motion in the Ontario legislature calling for a discount.
"Many people in Essex have raised concerns about constant power outages ranging from hours, to a flicker, in the communities of Harrow, Amherstburg, McGregor, and Colchester," he says. "This motion is in direct response to those concerns."
The motion reads, "in the opinion of this House, the Government of Ontario should enact legislation that, in the event of more than three unplanned outages in a single billing period, requires an electricity supplier to reimburse affected customers by an amount equal to each customer's delivery charges during the billing period in which the outages took place."
Natyshak says the outages disrupt families and businesses and have been happening without accountability.
On Monday night, Essex CAO Donna Hunter will give town council a verbal report on the outages.
